Boys in grades 5 through 8 who have registered to play Needham Boys Lacrosse have been assigned to teams for the 2010 MBYLL season. You should be hearing from your coach soon as our season begins 4/1/10. Our MBYLL teams will each have one practice, one skills night and one game (Sunday) per week.
As we have done the past two seasons, in addition to the traditional town travel teams entered in the MBYLL, Needham will also be entering teams from grades 5 through 8 in the Town Pride League (TPL). While the MBYLL requires towns such as Needham entering multiple teams at each age group level to have those teams be of even skill levels, the TPL is a select league and our TPL entries will be comprised of our most skilled players in each of these grades.
It is with much excitement that we announce our plans for the 2010 TPL season!
TPL Overview
TPL is a great opportunity for the more skilled players in each grade to play together, receive coaching from Needham High School lacrosse coaches and have a chance to play some extra lacrosse against top notch competition. Allplayers registered for Needham Boys Lacrosse are eligible for and encouraged to try out for their grade level TPL team. In addition to the aforementioned MBYLL schedule, each TPL team will have one practice and one game per week, more in the case of the 8th grade team.
This year we plan to enter an “A” team in Grade 5, 6, 7 and 8 in TPL. Additionally, and for the first time ever, we are excited to announce that we also intend to enter a “B” team made up of a combination of the best 7th and 8th graders not initially chosen for the Grade 7 and Grade 8 “A” teams. The combo 7/8 Grade “B” team will practice with the “A” teams and there will be opportunities for players on the “B” team to be called up to their respective “A” teams during the course of the season.
Again this year we are able to offer professional coaching for our Grade 6, 7, 8 teams as well as our combination 7/8 “B” team. Each of these teams will be coached by a member of the Needham High School Boys Lacrosse coaching staff led by Varsity Head Coach Dave Wainwright. Each team’s head coach will be ably assisted by a Grade Level Coordinator who will help with coaching as well as administrative functions.
While Needham Boys Lacrosse encourages all registered players to try out for their grade level TPL team, please understand that TPL is a commitment. Being on a TPL team will mean two more days of lacrosse per week. Once players are chosen for a TPL team they will need to register specifically for TPL, with an additional registration fee of $175 - $225 per player depending on their grade level, for the 2010 season. This cost includes all games, practices and at least one tournament.

Tryouts
If you wish to try out for a grade level TPL team please go to www.needhamboyslacrosse.com to register and pay the tryout fee of $15 per player. The tryout fee covers both tryout days.
Tryouts will be conducted by Needham High School Varsity coaches, assisted by Needham Boys Lacrosse Board members. Players should be dressed in full equipment, including mouth guards and cups, and be ready to begin immediately at the start times stated below.

In the event of inclement weather we would change the practice location and times as follows:
Wednesday 3/10/10 - 3-4pm at Newton Indoor Sports for Grade 6.
Thursday 3/11/10 - 6-7pm at Newton Indoor Sports for Grade 7.
Friday 3/12/10 - 3-4pm at Newton Indoor Sports for Grade 8.
